The only women's university in Tamil Nadu, Mother Teresa Women's University (MTWU), is located in Attuvampatti, Kodaikanal, the "Princess of Hill Stations" and the busiest multiracial tourist destination. The University was founded in 1984 under Tamil Nadu's Act 15 with the noble goal of "Empowering Women through Education," and the foundation stone was set by Mother Teresa, the illustrious Noble Laureate for peace. Women's empowerment and the creation of an inclusive society are catalysed by the university.
For the purpose of fostering women's entrepreneurship, MTWU has Research and Extension Centers in Chennai, Madurai, and Coimbatore as well as a Centre for Women's Studies in Pallapatti, Dindigul.
