The Government of Assam founded the National Legal University and Judicial Academy (NLUJAA), a prestigious legal school, in Guwahati in 2009. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in the field of law.

The undergraduate program offered by NLUJAA is a five-year integrated program in law, which is commonly known as Bachelor of Arts + Bachelor of Laws (BA LLB). The postgraduate program offered by NLUJAA is a two-year Master of Laws (LLM) program, which is further divided into two specializations, namely, Constitutional and Administrative Law, and Corporate and Commercial Law.

Admission to these programs is based on the candidate's performance in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities. The cutoff scores for CLAT vary every year and are determined based on the performance of the candidates and the number of available seats.
