In Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir, India, there is a government university called the Islamic University of Science & Technology. The university has been established as a place for higher education for the residents of the state of Jammu and Kashmir and its surrounding areas. IUST is a member of AIU and is acknowledged by the UGC and AICTE.

In November 2005, a law passed by the state legislature of Jammu and Kashmir established the IUST. 25 km separate Islamic University from Srinagar, the state's summer capital.

The Board of Directors of the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Wakf Board serves as the university's governing body, while the Chief Minister of the State serves as the institution's Chancellor. The Vice Chancellor serves as the chair of the Executive Council, which is the university's executive body. A School of Humanities and Social Sciences will supplement the comprehensive curriculum in science and technology. The institution works to assure leadership education by putting a strong emphasis on career growth and general personality enhancement. Because of the 5 August 2019 conversion of the state of Jammu & Kashmir into a Union territory. The UT's Lieutenant Governor now serves as the university's chancellor.The university recently received 1350 kanals of land from the Jammu and Kashmir administration near the campus, where it plans to build a solar park, a biodiversity park, and further infrastructural projects in the future.University sporting facilities were upgraded to international standards in 2021.
