A bill to establish a new university in veterinary, dairy, fisheries, and allied sciences was introduced in the State Legislative Assembly in 2009 with the approval of the then-honorable chief minister Shri Narendra Modi. The university was affectionately named Kamdhenu after the legendary holy cow that grants all wishes. The Gujarat Legislative Assembly created and passed the Kamdhenu University Act, 2009 (Gujarat Act No 9 of 2009). The Act was approved by Gujarat's renowned Governor Shri on July 7, 2009.
For the advancement of veterinary and animal sciences, including dairy, fisheries, and allied sciences, as well as for advancing learning, carrying out need-based research, and disseminating research findings and other technical information (lab to land), the Gujarati government established and incorporated Kamdhenu University as a teaching and affiliating university.
