Ver Narmad Located in Surat, Gujarat, India, South Gujarat institution is a public institution. South Gujarat University was formerly known as VNSGU (VNSGU), which was changed in 2004 to celebrate the illustrious academic and Gujarati poet Narmad.[3] The 1965-founded institution provides undergraduate and graduate programmes, as well as non-conventional postgraduate departments including public administration, rural studies, comparative literature, and aquatic biology.

The South Gujarat University Act of 1965 created the university. It began operations in 1966, became a university on May 23, 1967, and received recognition from the University Grants Commission in 1968. The first college in India to offer postgraduate programmes in rural studies is VNSGU. After the Gujarati poet Veer Narmad, whose real name was Narmadshankar Labhshankar Dave, it was renamed VNSGU in 2004.
