University of Mysore

UoM is a public state university in Mysore, Karnataka. The University of Mysore was established on July 27, 1916, as a result of the efforts of His Excellency Sri Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar-IV (1884–1940) and the then Diwan Sir M Visvesvaraya (1860–1962), the liberal and visionary Maharaja of the erstwhile princely state of Mysore. 

It is the sixth oldest university in India and the first University in Karnataka. Also, in a way, it is the first university in independent India to be established outside the borders of British India. In the year 2000, it was the first university to get five-star accreditation by NAAC.

The University of Mysore library contains over 8,00,000 books, 2,400 journal titles, and 100,000 volumes of periodicals. The main campus of this UoM consists of an amphitheater, an auditorium, a swimming pool, and hostel facilities for men and women. As of July 2013, UoM was accredited with "Grade A" by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).
