In 2013, the Government of Karnataka passed legislation establishing the University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technologies (TDU), financed by the FRLHT Trust. The university supports interdisciplinary study and research. Throughout the first ten years of its existence, it concentrated on one area, namely the meeting point of Ayurveda and Biology. It already possesses a sizable library of Ayurvedic medical literature and the necessary equipment for study in molecular and cell biology, genetics, phytochemistry, and microbiology. IAIM, a 100-bed research hospital run by the university (Institute of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine). Although one of TDU's main areas of focus is Ayurveda-biology, there is room for future development of new trans-disciplinary areas of interest in a variety of fields, including biomedicine, the life sciences, mathematics, logic, the social sciences, environment studies, design, architecture, performing and fine arts.
