To offer top-notch legal education on a worldwide scale, the Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU) was founded by the Tamil Nadu government pursuant to Act No. 9 of 2012 of the State Legislature. Dr. J. Jayalalithaa, a previous chief minister, founded TNNLU and laid its cornerstone on February 13, 2012.

Tiruchirappalli, also known as Rock Fort City, has excellent air, train, and road connections. From Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Kochi, there are everyday flights to Trichy. TNNLU is an hour and a half away by car from the well-connected airport of Madurai.

The District and Sessions Court and other Subordinate Courts are about 10 miles from TNNLU, making communication between the two institutions simple and efficient.
