With the founding of the Shobhit Institute of Engineering and Technology (SIET) by the NICE Society, which was founded itself in July 1989, Shobhit University got underway in July 2000. The institute has two engineering schools, one in Meerut (better known as the Shobhit Institute of Engineering and Technology, Saharanpur) and the other at Gangoh. The college had affiliations with Gautam Buddh Technical University and Uttar Pradesh Technical University, both of which are currently part of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University.

The Adarsh Vijendra Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (AVIPS), presently a constituent institution of the university, was founded by the NICE Society in July 2006. The Meerut institution was granted university status in November 2006 and took on the name Shobhit University, Meerut (formally Shobhit Institute of Engineering and Technology).
