Rayalaseema University  

Kurnool is the only city in India which is situated between two rivers. Kurnool district is the gateway to Rayalaseema, which is bounded by Mahbub Nagar district of Telangana in the north, Anantapur and Cuddapah districts in the south, Bellary district of Karnataka in the west and Prakasam district in the east. Kurnool city is located at a distance of about 200 km from Hyderabad city.

Rayalaseema University, Kurnool, a dream of Kurnool district was fulfilled in the year 2008 by Act No. 29 by the Legislature of the State of Andhra Pradesh. Earlier, the university was formally launched by GoM. The establishment of Rayalaseema University is part of the Andhra Pradesh government's vision to promote access, equity and inclusivity in higher education. The university established a postgraduate center with two courses,

At first the center was housed in a small building to begin with and later, in 1979, it was shifted to the old municipal office buildings. The center was established in 1990 in a small village near Kurnool, B. was shifted to a university-owned building at Tandrapadu. In 1993 the affiliation of the center was transferred to Sri Krishnadevaraya University. Courses in Computer Science, Management and Mathematics were introduced in the year 2000. With the establishment of Rayalaseema University, MA in English and M.Ed. The courses were introduced in the academic year 2008-09; and MSc in Biotechnology in the academic year 2009-10.

Rayalaseema University constantly strives to maintain and enhance its quality in teaching, research and extension and outreach activities. The University has set for itself a unique goal: comprehensive development and development of the underprivileged. The University upholds Article 46 of the Constitution of India: "The State shall promote with special care the educational and economic interests of the weaker sections of the people and shall protect them from social injustice and all forms of social exploitation.
