The Periyar University or PU University is a University in Salem, Tamil Nau, India. Which was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1997. It is named after the Great Social reformer Thanthai Periyar E. V. Ramasamy.

The Periyar University Salem got its Status from the University Grants Commission, New Delhi bestowed 2f in 1998 and 12 (B) Status in 2005. The University also has accredited by NAAC with an ‘A++’ grade. It has been awarded a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.61 out of the 4 Points which comes under the performance descriptor “Excellent”.
