In Kochi, India, there is a public law school and National Law University called the NUALS (NUALS). It is one among the 24 NLUs in India and the first and only NLU in the State of Kerala. The Common Law Admission Test serves as the basis for university admission.

The NUALS Act, 2005, approved by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Kerala in 2005, established the NUALS.[1] The Vice-Chancellor is responsible for the day-to-day management and administration of the institution. As of January 24, 2023, Justice S. Siri Jagan (Ret.) will serve as the university's Acting Vice-Chancellor.

The former National Institute for Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), which was founded and run by the Bar Council of Kerala and Bar Council of Kerala Trust, was merged under the NUALS Act of 2005. On January 7, 2006, Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan inaugurated NUALS. Since Kochi served as the home of the High Court of Kerala and Lakshadweep, the university was situated there.
