The National Institute of Technology Jamshedpur (also known as NIT Jamshedpur or NITJSR) is a technical education institute in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India. It was founded on 15 August 1960 as a Regional Institute of Technology and elevated to National Institute of Technology (NIT) on December 27, 2002, when it was given the status of a Deemed University. As one of India's 31 NITs, it is directly supervised by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). It is the third NIT in a line of eight that the Indian government developed as part of its Second Five Year Plan (1956–61).

Dr. Srikrishna Sinha, the then-chief minister of the state of Bihar (unpartitioned), launched the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur as the Regional Institute of Technology in 1960. For the laying of the foundation stone, the day of August 15, which is India's Independence Day, was selected. As a part of the Second Five-Year Plan (1956–1961), it was one of the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges (RECs) to be founded. While NIT Patna already serves as the NIT for the state of Bihar, it now functions as the NIT for the recently created state of Jharkhand.
