West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT), originally known as Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology (MAKAUT), is an Indian public state university in Kalyani, West Bengal. The West Bengal state government provides all of its funding. The West Bengal legislature founded it in 2001. Via connected colleges and internal departments, the university offers degrees in management and engineering.

In order to build a university of engineering and technology in West Bengal, the government of West Bengal established an expert committee on December 31, 1998, with Ashesh Prosad Mitra as its chairman. A law passed by the West Bengal Assembly on January 15, 2001, officially established the institution. In April 2015, the institution's name was changed from West Bengal University of Technology to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology.
