The Manipur Technical University (MTU) was the state's first technical institution, founded on April 23, 2016, in accordance with "The Manipur Technical University Act, 2016." (Manipur Act No.8 of 2016). It is permitted to provide degrees through its departments under Section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956 and is listed among universities on the UGC list under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. All of the state's technical institutes will eventually affiliate with MTU. The sixth academic session of the institution will take place in the academic year 2021–2022. It will be decided how to proceed with the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) accreditation and recognition processes.
