K. D. Swami was chosen as the founding vice chancellor of Brij University, Bharatpur, which was founded in 2012 by the Government of Rajasthan through the Brij University, Bharatpur Act, 2012. (VC). The Governor of Rajasthan serves as the institute's Chancellor. By the Brij University, Bharatpur (Change of Name) Act of 2014, it was renamed Maharaja Surajmal Brij University, Bharatpur in 2014 to honour the late Maharaja Surajmal. Vijay Bansal was accused of harassing Swami, who resigned from his position in April 2016 and cited "administrative and financial problems" as the reason. R.K.S. Dhakarey succeeded Ashwani Kumar Bansal as VC in February 2020 after being appointed in February 2017.
