About KUK University

Kurukshetra University which is in Kurukshetra and also known as the KUK University is in Haryana, located between the longitude and latitudes 29°57’28’’N 76°48’57” E. KUK was established on 11 January 1956 in Kurushetra, in the Indian state of Haryana, which is 160 kilometers (99 mi) from the capital, Delhi. The university campus of KUK is spread over 473 acres that are 1.91 km and is located on the western bank of Brahma Sarovar in the Hindu holy city of Kurukshetra. This university is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and it is the oldest university of Haryana.

History of KUK University

The KUK University was a unitary residential University in the year 1956. The department of Sanskrit was the first and the only department in the university at the time it was inaugurated by our Bharat Ratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of the Indian Republic. The idea that came out of the building of establishing a university was conceived by then governor of Punjab, Chandeshwar Prasad Narayan Singh, a Sanskrit scholar. Later in 2012, the Department of philosophy was introduced in an academic course on Gita.
