Kumaun University  

Kumaun University is a public state university. which is located in the Nainital-263001, Uttarakhand, India. The university is also a part of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and it is an affiliation of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The University is accredited by NAAC with getting of grade ‘A’ in 2015 which is achieved in the new grading system. The University Grants Commission, New Delhi recognized the University under Section 12-B of the UGC Act, 1956 and its name appears at number 177.

The establishment of the University is a rare distinction of popular and powerful demand and embodies the hopes and aspirations of the people of Nanital for development through higher education. The university has also established an independent chair named "Mahadevi Varma Peeth" at Umagarh, Ramgarh in the field of language and literary research, which is fully funded by the Uttarakhand government.
