Calicut (also known as Kozhikode), Kerala is home to the IIM Kozhikode (also known as IIM Kozhikode or IIMK). One of the 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), the institution was founded in 1996 by the Government of India in partnership with the State Government of Kerala. The IIM was the fifth to be founded.

In the area of management education, the institution engages in a wide spectrum of academic activities, including research, teaching, training, consulting, and the building of intellectual infrastructure. With a balance between commercial needs and social concerns, the institute places a strong emphasis on the development of analytical abilities as well as a focus on global and cross-cultural challenges.

The IIM Kozhikode was founded in 1996 by the Indian government in partnership with the Keralan government, and the first class of 42 students began classes there in 1997 at the temporary site of the National Institute of Technology Calicut.[4] The current campus's location in Kunnamangalam was discovered in 2000.[Needs citation] The institute's design and construction were started the next year by Joseph Stein (also the architect of the India Habitat Centre in Delhi) and Stein Mani Chowla Architects.[Needs citation] The IIM Kozhikode campus on a hill was first used in 2003. APJ Abdul Kalam, India's former president, opened the campus.
