One of the Indian Institutes of Information Technology, the IIIT Surat (IIIT Surat), was founded by the MHRD in Surat, Gujarat, on a PPP model. On February 5, 2020, the Institute received the designation of Institute of National Significance (INI). The temporary facilities of Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology are where IIIT Surat is now located (SVNIT). SVNIT will mentor the institute for the first two to three years while the new campus is being built.  Public-private partnership (PPP) funding from the state government and industrial partners Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers & Chemicals, Gujarat Gas, and Gujarat Informatics allowed for the construction of the IIIT Surat.
