THE INDIAN INSTITUTES OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP) ACT, 2017 established the Indian Institute of Information Technology Guwahati (IIITG) as a National Institution. It provides B.Tech. studies in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) and Computer Science Engineering (CSE), M.Tech. etc.  In August 2013, the IIITG began activities with B.Tech programs in CSE and ECE. The first group of B.Tech students graduated in May 2017. The Institute's first graduation took place on May 15, 2018. TEQIP III funding was also provided to the institute for infrastructure growth and academic improvement.
