Founded under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, the ICFAI (IFHE or simply ICFAI) is a private deemed-university. It is situated on Shankarapally Road in Donthanapally, Hyderabad.

IFHE is an A++ Grade University by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

The ICFAI Group supports N.J. Yasaswy's IFHE, which it created.[Reference required] Universities and independent business schools have been formed around India by the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI), a non-profit educational organisation in Telangana, India.N.J. Yasaswy, Besant C. Raj, and Prasanna Chandra formed ICFAI in 1984.

In 1995, ICFAI founded the ICFAI Business School Hyderabad (IBS Hyderabad) in Hyderabad.[Reference required] In 2008, the organisation, then known as the "ICFAI," was granted the status of deemed-to-be-university. The Faculty of Management at IFHE was founded by IBS Hyderabad.

J Mahender Reddy was named Vice Chancellor, while Abid Hussain was named the organization's first Chancellor. Following the passing of Abid Hussain in 2012, C. H. Hanumantha Rao was appointed Chancellor.C. Rangarajan has served as Chancellor since 2015.

Following UGC permission in 2010, the faculties of science, technology, and law were established. In 2018, the School of Architecture was founded.
