The Department of Germanic and Romance Studies( GRS) is one of the oldest and largest departments of the University of Delhi. It was established in 1948 as the Department of Modern European Languages, and was divided into two separate departments in 1988. The GRS offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and Latin. The department also offers a number of MPhil and PhD programmes. 

 The GRS has a strong faculty of over 50 preceptors, including numerous internationally famed scholars. The department also has a well- equipped library with over 35,000 books and journals in colorful languages. The GRS is laboriously involved in exploration and has a number of active exploration groups. The department also organizes a number of conferences, shops, and forums . 

 The GRS has a long and distinguished history of academic excellence.
