University: It was initially a satellite campus of Punjab Agricultural University situated at Hisar. It was established as a university by Haryana and Punjab Agricultural Universities Act, which has been ratified on 2 February 1970, and was named Haryana Agricultural University. Departments: Again, on 31 October 1991, it was renamed Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University. According to the data maintained by the Government of India's Department of Statistics, the HAU's Department of Agronomy was established in 1930, and the Department of Entomology was founded in 1956 at Punjab Agricultural University.

Colleges: In February 1948, the Punjab College of Veterinary Sciences was opened. In 1962, the College of Agriculture was established. In 1964, the College of Basic Science and Humanities was established. In 1966, the College of Animal Science was also added. In 1972, the College of Sports and 1973, the College of Data Science were established. In 1973, the College of Home Science was also established. In 1992, one after further advancement, the College of Agricultural Engineering was established.

In 2010, the College of Veterinary Science was separated from HAU. In the present scenario, this college has become a part of the newly formed Lala the Lajpat Rai University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.
