One of the 15 central universities created by the Indian Parliament's The Central Universities Act, 2009 (Act No. 25 of 2009) is CUK (CUK). The institution is located in Kasaragod, the district that makes up the most of the state of Kerala in India. The university's main campus is located at Periya, 9.8 kilometres from Kanhangad and 20 kilometres south of Kasaragod cities. The university initially administered its humanities programmes and other facilities out of a transit campus in Vidyanagar.

 According to the vision statement, the university is based on the admirable ideal of a "Caring Wisdom" and is motivated by the lofty objectives of academic rigour, commitment to society, moral constancy, and intellectual and spiritual enrichment. at October 2009, the university opened its doors at a rented building in Nayanmarmoola (Vidyanagar), Kasaragod town, with 17 students registered in two PG degrees. From this humble beginning, the university has grown into a building that can house 2500 students who are enrolled in 25 undergraduate, 22 graduate, and 22 research courses.
