The Gujarat State Government founded the Bhakta Kavi Narsinh Mehta University (BKNMU), a State University, on September 16, 2015, in Junagadh, Gujarat State, India, pursuant to Gujarat Act No. 23 of 2015. Honorable previous Gujarat Chief Minister Shrimati Anandiben Patel planted the germ for the establishment of the new institution, which was conceptualised by Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The institution is currently operational in the Government Polytechnic Building in Khadiya, which is only about 12 kilometres from the city of Junagadh. Districts in Junagadh, Porbandar, Gir Somnath, and Devbhumi Dwarka fall under the purview of the university. Prof. (Dr.) J.P. Maiyani has been named the first vice chancellor of the university by the Gujarati government.
