In Jorhat, Assam, India, there is a public university called Assam Women's University. The Assam Government passed the Assam Women's University Act, 2013 (XXII of 2013) to create it. It is Assam's first women's university.

The state government initially designated Assam Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor as the university's mentor.

Malinee Goswami was appointed as the first vice chancellor of the university on September 12, 2019, by Governor of Assam and university chancellor Jagdish Mukhi.

The university provides undergraduate, graduate, and research programmes in a range of academic fields, including the humanities, sciences, business, management, social work, and education. The BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BBA, MBA, MCA, M.Sc, MA, M.Ed, and Ph.D. are some of the well-liked courses that AWU offers. For all of its courses, the institution uses a semester system.
