Jorhat, Assam, India is located at the Assam Agricultural University (AAU), a university associated with agriculture. It was Founded in 1969 under the Assam Agricultural University Act, of 1968. The university has a campus spread over 700 acres and offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in agriculture, horticulture, veterinary science, home science, fisheries, sericulture, agricultural engineering, and community science.
AAU has five colleges, namely, the College of Agriculture, the College of Veterinary Science, the Biswanath College of Agriculture, the Sarat Chandra Singha College of Agriculture (formerly North Bank College), and the Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science. The university also has 27 research stations and 11 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) located in different parts of Assam.
The university has been instrumental in the development of agriculture and allied sectors in the region. It has contributed significantly to research and education in the field of agriculture, helping to improve the productivity and livelihoods of farmers.
